Start grid Road america MD250 Race 2009

National Results - www.USGPRU.net     16-17th 2011 Miller Motorsport park

Max-Racing converged on the magnificent Miller Motorsports Park for a full-on double-header weekend of racing. The race at Thunderhill had been cancelled due to weather, so the race was combined with the Miller event to make for 2-times the purse, racing, and points up for grabs.
The Pilot Moto3 races were dominated on the very windy racetrack by the trio of Max Flinders, Xavier Zayat from New Jersey and Andre Ochs from California. In race 1, Zayat and Max checked out at the start with Zayat taking the lead with Max in tow. On lap 7 of 10, Max passed for the lead and looked to have the race in the bag when on the second to last turn, his bike was caught by the gusting wind and he ran slightly wide, Zayat was able to pull alongside in the last turn. It was a drag race to the finish line with Zayat taking the win by .047 second. Ochs rode to a lonely 3rd place finish. Race 2 saw Andre Ochs pull a great start and he led from the front. Max tried to chase him down in second place with Alvarez and Zayet on his tail. Lap eight saw Zayet make a move on Max and Alvarez which left Max in third place on the finish line.

The REV’IT! Sponsored Moriwaki MD250H Powered by HONDA races were close races with Max, Truslow and Zayat putting on a master class of machine control. Ben Truslow had his hands full with Max dogging him the entire first race. But Ben was able to keep Max at bay long enough to take 2nd place leaving Max with a third place. In race 2, Max kept on Zayat’s rear wheel for 5 laps. Zayat was able to turn up a little more speed though and slowly put a gap between them which Max responded too just a little too late as he could not close the gap for the finish line. Truslow and Ochs had a battle for the final podium spot, which Truslow was ultimately able to capture for himself.
Finally, the Moto Liberty / RS-Taichi 250GP class was up. Andre Ochs was really comfortable on his immaculately prepared Honda, and was able to clean-sweep both races. In race 1, Max and Alvarez had a tight battle for second place. Alvarez was able to get the power down a little bit better than Flinders though and narrowly clinched second place from Max. Race 2 was a carbon copy of race 1. Bruce Lind rode through the challenging wind conditions to capture 4th place in both races.
With a total of over 60 hours driving to attend this meeting and with six podium places out of six races this was a phenomenal achievement for the 14yr old North shore student. The national championship points following thes round has Max leading the GP250 class with 152 points . He is Second in the Moriwaki championship with 209 points and leads the Moto3 championship with 182 points

9th-10th July April Roebling Park GA

The Max-racing team visited Roebling raceway (Savannah, Georgia) last week end for the third round of the National USGPRU road
racing championship. Max Flinders competed in the Moto3 class, Moriwaki Cup and the GP250 national events. Despite the hot
weather and the lack of Dunlop tyres Max qualified in Pole position for Moto3 and 2nd and 5th in the other classes.
Sundays races saw 95 degree sunshine and a perfect track, in the MOTO3 race Max made the hole-shot and lead the pack for the
first four laps of the ten lap race, he was dominating the trailing pack until the rear tyre of his race machine spun out and he ended
up on the grass infield. He regained his composure and re-joined the race in 12 place picking his way up to 8th for the flag. The
Moriwaki cup followed very closely and Max had a ten lap dice with Zayat out of New York they swapped positions on every lap and were running at lap record pace throughout, the race was decided by a
head to head drag race to the finish line with Max finishing second to the lightweight machine of his competitor. GP250 saw a hot race with Max holding his grid position and finishing in fifth place behind the Jamie James production Yamaha TZ250 with a gap of only 1 ½ seconds.

28th-29th June 2011 Summit Point VA

Round 3 of the USGPRU National Championship headed for the historic Summit Point raceway to join the CCS/ASRA series for what would turn out to be a blistering hot Memorial Day weekend of racing!
In Practice Max had a complete melt down of 5th gear on his Moto3 bike and had to resort to running his stock Moriwaki MD250 in all three races. The challenge was now to try and preserve as many points as possible for the championship !
The Pilot Moto3 race saw the 4-stroke Moriwaki’s MD250H’s rocketed off the line at the start ahead of their 2-
stoke counterparts. Casey Tobolewski, led the field into turn one followed closely by ‘Mad’ Max Flinders and Alex Wisdom.  Reet Das
and John Hjelm, both riding Honda RS125s, caught the front runners and passed them on the back section of the track. Casey and Max held on to the new leaders for a few laps, but the long front straight was too much of an advantage for the more powerful Hondas, and they watched the leader pull away. The battle
for third place was far from decided as the Honda RS125 mounted Dave Celento caught up with the young racers on their Moriwakis. The three had a great battle for the final podium spot, but Celento eventually powered past the Moriwakis to capture 3rd place over Max Flinders.
The final race of this blistering hot weekend was the REV’IT! Sponsored, Moriwaki MD250H Powered by HONDA race. The race got off to a great start with Zayat quickly taking the lead, the battle for second place was between ‘Mad’ Max who duked it out with Tobolewski. Max led for the first half of the race, with Casey taking over on lap 5 of 9. Casey stretched out a 1.5 second lead over Max only to see that lead cut to shreds on the last lap as Casey brake a little early into turn 5. Max passed Casey entering the carousel section of the track and held on for the second place.  Another similar battle raged on for 4th place between Alex Wisdom and Chris Kosan with Wisdom likewise narrowly holding on to the 4th place position.

     11th-12th Sept 2010 NJMP Lightning

Great return to the Lightening track saw Max qualify in 4th place for the Moriwaki  class and  5th in the 125GP class, things looked promising for the races and then it rained ! 4 riders fell during early morning practice whilst Max sat on his slick shod bike hoping for it to dry up. Race 1 was the 125GP class and we had to put on the wets, Max flew off the second row of the grid and hot shotted turn 1, he led up to turn 4 when he nearly highsided and ended up on the grass, he quickly recovered and joined the race in last place. His pace was exceptional and he had his head down pulling back palces ever lap. By the last lap he was closing on second place with lap times that were quicker that the rest of the pack unfortunatly the race ended before he could challenge for second and he finished an excellent 3rd place and highest 4-stroke. Th Moriwaki race started on a dry track and Max could not make much impression on the top three who pulled each other along for some very impressive lap times. The 1.5 second gap could not be made up and Max followed on to 4th palce by the end of the race.

Max visited Thuderbolt for the first time and although he visited the grass on the first lap he grew to love this flowing track. Practice saw his lap time dropping into the 1:39 whilst final qualifiying saw his time drop into the 1:35.

First race was the 125GP class and Max was 13th on the grid. He had a good start and managed to get into 11th place by the final lap.

Moriwaki race was started as a double grid at the rear of the 250GP class and it was great to see the little Moriwakis cutting past several of the 250 runners. Max finally finished in third place behind Nick and Stefano. No some machine work needs doing before the next round.

Race 3 2009 Heartland Park, Kansas

What a weekend! The track was great and Max enjoyed practise taking seconds off his lap time each outing. Qualifying wasn’t the best but practise is so short Max was still learning the track.

Race day dawned bringing with it an almighty thunderstorm. After buying new slicks we then had to invest in wets. Max went out in practise and tagged on to Melissa Paris (AMA Supersport rider) for her sighting lap. He took to the wet track like a duck to water and put in some impressive times.  As the race drew closer the sun came out and conditions on the track were changing rapidly. Which tyres should we go with, slicks or stick on wets? Dad and chief mechanic, Martin, wrestled with the decision and eventually decided to stick with the wets. The grid was split, six riders, three had chosen slicks and three wets. Max eager as ever, messed up his start and wheelied off the line. Thankfully he managed to keep it but set off about three seconds behind everyone else. By the end of the first lap he’d worked his way to fifth. Each lap he was getting closer and closer to fourth place, then, it happened! Lap six, the final corner Max made a move and took third place. Racing for the line third was snatched from him in a photo finish. Fantastic action. Thanks to the Dunlop guys who were willing and very able to keep switching tyres we really appreciate your talents. This weekend was very special as Harold managed to get over to watch Max. Thanks so much for all your time, support and effort, it was great to see you. Also regards to Taka from RS Taichi. I couldn’t believe we were actually meeting you after all the emails. Thanks for your advice and support, we’re already saving for the leathers!
